Why choose to work with me?

A good therapist uses their experience and knowledge for the good of a client, building a positive, therapeutic relationship. One of the most important things, aside from asking about their qualifications, is ‘do you like your therapist?’ Whilst they need to be qualified (I am), they need to be the sort of person you can relate to. I am compassionate, respect my clients and am ‘down to earth’. I've a wide range of approaches that mean I help people to work things through at their pace and in a way that suits them. Looking at patterns of negative behaviour, getting to the bottom of issues, reducing anxiety or worry or achieving goals. I aim for my clients to feel good and having greater confidence in skills to make long-lasting changes. Do you want to feel that way?

Where I work with clients:

Wednesday and Thursday currently I am working at rooms in The Lanes Clinic, 7 St John's Alley, Norwich, NR2 1DR. I also work with clients online (and rarely by arrangement at the Lanes Clinic, at other times).

So if you are wanting to improve your life and wellbeing, want to start getting healthier habits, dealing with fears, reducing anxiety, feeling more relaxed and gaining more confidence, why not give me a call/ message and find out how I can help you achieve your goals and to feel great?

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Mindfulness as a supportive skill in psychotherapy: I attended a mindfulness and meditation course so I now support individuals and groups in learning a helpful skill for life. As a counsellor, I also have received training to help those experiencing PTSD, where one specific event has caused issues.

Counselling offers you a way of talking through issues at a pace that is right for you and to gain insights.

It might be you want to change a habit, though see a number of reasons why it's been hard to make changes before, so we look at and agree a plan to deal with those old issues through counselling. You could be suffering with anxiety or low self esteem. These are two areas amongst many areas that clients come to speak to me about.

Coaching enables you to find out things about a situation or come up with solutions and goals otherwise more challenging to see through on your own. Working with someone outside of a usual social circle or family, enables exploration of situations and ideas without baggage or preconceptions to hold things back. A coach can be objective and it can give you extra momentum to make things happen and put achievable steps in place.

Mindfulness (& meditation)

Our brain is a wonderful and complex tool, isn't it? We internally chatter away to ourselves and yet aren't always aware that the chatter may need to be gently soothed and re-directed. Particularly so if anxiety or stress is something affecting your life. Learn ways to help you to manage your busy brain. I demonstrate mindfulness and meditation (non-religious), having applied these techniques in my own life, and I undertook training with which to guide others as an experienced psychotherapist.

Some Private Healthcare providers now reimburse payment for hypnotherapy treatment. You should check with your provider. Whether they reimburse for treatment depends on the organisation an individual Hypnotherapist is registered with. I've listed relevant ones here:

How hypnotherapy can help you?

Hypnotherapy is a skilled communication aimed at directing a person’s imagination in a way that helps elicit changes in some perceptions, sensations, feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

In a typical hypnotherapy session, I, as the hypnotherapist and client will discuss the intended alterations or therapeutic goals desired. The hypnotherapist will ask questions about previous medical history, general health and lifestyle to decide on the best approach for the individual.

Hypnotherapy may be found to be helpful for those seeking relief from a range of problems and is used alongside a person’s own willpower and motivation to seek a desired goal. It is supportive and can (alongside talking therapy that I offer) relieve anxiety, aid sleeping, address attitudes to lifestyle, and help achieve behavioural change and creating healthy habits. Supporting stress and confidence issues it may enhance performance with areas such as sport and public speaking. Hypnotherapy may help people to cope with and manage the relief of perceived pain.

Hypnotherapy has also been used with both adults and children to help manage the pain associated with irritable bowel. There is evidence to support its use in this condition for both adults and children and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Guidance (NICE) recommends the NHS should consider referring patients for hypnotherapy if their irritable bowel is persistent and pain has continued despite prescribed medicine.

Let me reassure you that you won't be clucking like a chicken or anything that you may have seen, as with a stage hypnotist.

Westfield Health: Recognises CNHC and GHR registration for reimbursement on a limited number of corporate paid plans provided by specific employers that include complementary therapies. Please check with your employers' plan/ policy.
